Civil/Family Legal Aid
Civil/family legal aid is available for many types of private disputes and other non-criminal problems that will, or might, go to court.
If you are granted legal aid you may have to pay some or all of it back.
You can get help to apply for legal aid from:
When you go to see a lawyer or apply for legal aid you will need to provide:
- any letters or documents to do with the case
- your address and phone numbers
- your date of birth
- income for the last 12 months
- any savings you have
- if you own a house or car etc, how much they are worth
- any money you owe
- how many children you are responsible for
- if you have a partner (married or de facto, including same-sex), you must also provide the same information about their finances
